The conference was called “Empowering Communities to Better Health” …men have higher rates of diabetes complications yet go to doctors, dietitians or nurses less often than women…health care services and health messages are often directed more to women… the process of diabetes often begins 10 or 15 years before the actual diagnosis…

Rising Diabetes in Aboriginal Populations
The National Aboriginal Diabetes Association (www.nada.ca) was one of the booths at the Canadian Diabetes Association Conference…diabetes is often approaching 25% and even a shocking 40% in a few communities….program is called “Just Move it”…Exercise is the key that helps insulin work effectively.

I’ve been at the Canadian Diabetes Association Professional Conference in Toronto over the past week. New Diabetes Drug
I am presently at the Canadian Diabetes Association professional conference…an exciting presentation on an up and coming new medication…It helps to increase how much insulin our bodies make, WITHOUT the side effect of low blood sugar. Another great benefit, is unlike injected insulin, it doesn’t make you hungry and eat more…it may even help some people with diabetes lose weight!

Is diabetic chocolate really sugar-free?
…sounds too good to be true…instead of adding these forms of sugar they add another type of sugar called sugar alcohol…may add more fat to improve the flavour…Compare these sugar-free sweets to the regular products.

I do not like the aftertaste of diet soda, what could I drink instead?
Regular soda has about 10 teaspoons or more sugar per 12-oz can. Diet soda has 0 sugar…you could make up a diet beverage at home using a package of Kool-Aid or Freshie and sweeten it with your own favorite low-calorie sweetener…

Out of Sight, Out of Mind
To be successful in reducing tempting foods…This starts at the grocery store and means not putting these “danger” foods in your cart…I had a photoshoot for my book…I brought home some foods from the “unhealthy” shopping cart… we ended up eating a whole bunch of “junk”…and feeling sick as a result…Today is a new day…Your home is your sanctuary and you need to keep it healthy. It does pay off.
